Training Solutions

"Any training that does not include the emotions, mind and body is incomplete; knowledge fades without feeling"

Why do many successful businesses consider training to be an essential investment ?

In today's competitive environment change is constant and businesses have to respond to challenges faster than ever before. There is a definite need to continue evolving the way things are done: a need to adapt behaviours, applying appropriate skills, to get the best results.

Training is about equipping people with the knowledge, skills and flexibility to respond with the most appropriate behaviour. Provided appropriate training is delivered and addresses specific defined outcomes the return on investment is high. This can be evidenced both directly and indirectly in some of the following ways:

  • Organisational Agility: with the appropriate skill sets in place a business is much more fluid and response ready.

  • Operational Efficiency: a well trained workforce is more capable, efficient and ultimately profitable.

  • Enhanced Motivation: employees that are well trained are known to exhibit higher morale and experience greater job satisfaction. As a consequence employee turnover is lowered.

  • Cultural Awareness: through training its employees a company is able to develop its own culture by conveying a consistent corporate message. This is a powerful way to instill a desirable work ethic.

What type of training does 80:20 Performance Solutions specialise in ?

Our training is focused on advancing core skills that are proven to be essential to the success of high achievers. We design our training to develop those skills that can be applied directly to enhancing performance:

Communication: as the territory changes, traditional boundaries shift and relationships evolve, people in business need to communicate more effectively than ever before. Poor communication is the biggest source of problems for modern business. We train people in techniques to improve their own style of communicating and to better manage the process of communication with others.

Understanding People & Motivation: figuring out what drives behaviours is essential to leading people and teams. If you want to influence you first need to know how to quickly establish what is important to the people you interact with and how they make decisions. Motivations are the building blocks of peoples thinking, decision making and behaviour. We train people to detect everyday motivation traits and how to leverage them to achieve outcomes.

Behavioural Flexibility & Change: Knowledge is power, the art is using it. The ability to remain objective in the face of problems and uncertainty, whilst staying committed, motivated and focused on goals is a quality few people possess. We train people in the art of choosing how to focus their attention in the right places at any time.

Delivery of Courses

The format of a training course is an important factor in determining whether it will meet objectives, we offer bespoke and set syllabus courses.

Bespoke Training Solutions: we propose a format for training that is based on specific objectives our client wishes to achieve. Through a process of consultation and review with the client we design a syllabus to deliver each of the objectives identified. If you are interested in bespoke training please contact us and ask for a copy of our Skill Builder Fact Sheet.

Set Syllabus Courses: we deliver courses covering a diverse range of skills over various durations from half day to 14 day durations. The short duration courses are focussed on acquisition of skill sets that can be learned quickly and more easily developed after the course. The longer duration courses are suitable where we have packaged several skill sets together or for an advanced skill. Some of our set syllabus courses lead to certification.

On Site Courses: we can deliver any of our courses on site at a client premises and in such circumstances negotiate a set fee depending on duration. This approach may be more cost effective or practical, for example: when a client has a number of delegates they wish to attend a training; for short courses, delegates can go straight back to work with no additional travelling; for short courses small groups can be trained in succession.

Open Courses: we hold a number of our more popular set courses open to delegates from different companies and sometimes the general public. we hold these courses at selected venues throughout the UK. These can be ideal when a client has only one or two delegates attending training. Additionally the opportunity to interact with people from different backgrounds and environments can add to the learning experience.

How do we ensure our training will add definite value ?

Everyone is an individual with their own unique requirements. At its best, training is used to address those requirements. We recognise our clients need for a return on investment from training and our consultations are designed to ensure objectives are met.

Working with Clients to Ensure Effective Training

Our aim is to ensure that delegates acquire new skills; that these skills are appropriate to their needs; that delegates are able to implement the skills after training and that specific learning objectives are achieved. In order to achieve these objectives we perform:

Pre-Training Consultation: we consult with clients to establish learning objectives. If we know what those objectives are we are able to pay special attention to achieving them. Bespoke courses can be adjusted to accomodate any learning objective. In set syllabus courses a trainer can still pay individual attention to specific learning objectives, the interactive style of our training makes this possible.

Post-Training Consultation: we provide feedback on how the training went, if appropriate the standard achieved by delegates and whether the objectives were met. We can also provide advice on post course coaching or follow up activities that will ensure utilisation of skills so they continue to develop.

Style of Delivery

Our approach to training is tailored to ensure people leave with new skills not just new ideas. Different people have different learning styles and we deliver in a manner that will cater for individual needs. To create a rich, dynamic, interactive learning experience we use a balanced mix of:

Metaphor: to introduce and embed key learning points and to facilitate generalisation across contexts. Provided appropriate metaphors are selected people will relate to them. Metaphor is a good means of connecting concepts and generating Tacit Know How.

Explicit Theory: to ensure understanding of the concepts underlying a skill and to provide enough detail and technical input for those who need it.

Elicitation of Natural Examples: encouraging delegates to generate natural examples of the learning points. This generates a direct link to their own experience which serves to connect the learning to specific contexts in which it will be useful.

Demonstrations: where appropriate conducting demonstrations to enable delegates to see what they will be doing themselves prior to an exercise. This paves the way for exercises and provides evidence for those that need it as part of their learning strategy.

Practical Exercises: putting into practice is absolutely fundamental to the acquisition of new skills. We always ensure that delegates are exposed to as much 'hands on' practice as possible. We take great care in planning exercises so they are clear and concise, provide an appropriate challenge and plenty of time to complete. Exercises are also a crucial step in enabling a trainer to ensure delegates are learning.

Implementation Plans: providing plenty of practical advice on how to practice skills together with structured exercises for further developing and implementing new skills after the training is complete. When learning new or advanced skills, application is essential to embedding those skills into everyday performance.  Leaving a course knowing how to do this ensures it is much more likley to happen.
