Description:
We have an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Research & Development Scientist to join one of our Biotechnology clients at their North West based site and lead one of their Product Development projects.
Over the next twelve months the product, a skin graft replacement for burns and acute trauma wounds, will be taken through Pre-clinical trials and onto Clinical studies. The role will entail leading a small team of R&D scientists and involves the following key responsibilities:
• Preparation of study plans, setting of objectives and supervision of laboratory execution • Reporting project progress to the Head of R&D • Establishing protocols for improved product formulation • Managing interactions with third parties conducting proof of principle pre-clinical studies • Transfer of technology to the in-house GMP manufacturing facility • Production of all relevant GLP and GMP documentation
This is a complex project and it is understood that applicants are unlikely to have experience of all of the techniques in use, these include:
• Tissue Culture: growing, maturing and media preparation • Analysis: Cell Activity; Physical Properties using Enyme Digests and DSC for analysis of composition; ELISA for protein Assays; Microscopy; Histology and Immunohistochemistry • Freeze Drying to preserve sample matrices • Gene Analysis using In-vivo techniques Some of the work is conducted internally by the R&D team and some is outsourced to Contract Laboratories.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced Scientist to step up into a new level of responsibility. The role of both project and people management opportunities as well as the chance to work at the cutting edge of the biotechnology sector on new and different novel products. Additionally with the Project Management aspects of the role, the successful applicant will be able to move away from a full time bench role.
The ideal candidate is likely to have extensive experience of the application of Cell Biology, especially Cell Culture techniques, to product development. With an ability to see both the technical detail when troubleshooting day to day issues and the bigger picture when managing a project. Ideally with significant experience gained in industry and a strong relevant life science qualification to BSc or PhD level desirable.
Experience in all of the techniques mentioned above is neither necessary nor anticipated however experience in tissue engineering or related discipline may be an advantage.
In addition to the technical experience we are also looking for strong personalities who have demonstrable evidence of being able to lead and multi-task. This is an important project and the successful applicant must demonstrate proven experience in trouble shooting.
The role is offered initially as a fixed term 12 month contract directly with the client. They offer a generous salary and benefits package inclusive of financial incentive bonus. The actual salary offered will reflect performance at interview, current experience and qualifications. In any event we anticipate a salary offer in the range of £26,000 to £35,000.
